in Main Dishes, Recipes, slow cooker

There are moments in my life when I wish I ate red meat…this is going to surprise many of you…but the moment is now. Salisbury Steak. yep.

Why?

The memories! My sisters and I going to Grandpa & Grandma house, picking out our own tv dinners… I always always ALWAYS chose Salisbury Steak…with mashed potatoes and corn and if lucky the big tv dinner with the brownie!I loved it.

I actually thought about trying a bite of this meal… I didn’t…but the thought was there and I could not even tell you when the last time I ever thought about eating red meat….like 15 years ago…

Now maybe my boys will have some wonderful memories of their own with Salisbury Steak….the homemade kind!

Slow Cooker Salisbury Steak

Ingredients

  • 2lb organic ground beef
  • 1 packet dry onion soup mix (I used 1 oz. of organic dry onion soup mix from the local grainery)
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs (I used Pankos)
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 2 (10.75oz) cans condensed cream of chicken soup (I use Pacific brand organic)
  • 1 packet dry au jus mix
  • 3/4 cups water

Directions

In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, onion soup, bread crumbs, and milk using your hands.

Shape into 8 thin patties.
Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.

Coat the patties in the flour and quickly brown on both sides in hot skillet. Place browned patties into the slow cooker stacking alternately like a pyramid.
In a medium bowl, mix together the cream of chicken soup, au jus mix, and water. Pour over the meat.

Cook on low for 4 or 5 hours, until ground beef is well done.

Serve with mashed potatoes. Enjoy Yum.
