{organizing} meal plans for the week

in tidbits

I thought I would share how I organize my meals for the week…Jill this is for you :-)

this is what i have displayed in my kitchen. i borrowed this idea from a friend of mine – marianne – whom has the most pretty sweet kitchen…her fram is white with blue paper in the background… i thought how cute… there are also lots of ideas on pinterest too.

i found an old frame at an antique store. i put a piece of scrapbook paper behind the glass. this photo makes me think I need to change out my paper…get something more seasonal :-)

i write the menu out for the week using an expo vis-a-vis wet erase marker. I recommend the vis-a-vis since it is fine point so it writes really nice.

SO…how does this all come to together?

(1) Typically on Saturday or Sunday’s I sit down and go through my pinterest board of Recipes to Try. this is primarily how i  choose recipes that I want to make…. I just love the ease…the pictures…scrolling…it is just easy. I store a lot of my recipes this way.  When I find a recipe online I just pin it so I remember that I saw it, liked it and want to make it.

I mainly choose a recipe 1. What ingredients I have at home that I want to use up perishables/freezer items… 2. what I am in the mood for and what looks good.

If I can’t find anything on my pinterest Recipes to Try board then I do a google search…or grab one of my cookbooks that I think will have a good recipe. I do have a drawer FULL of magazine tear outs and a pile of food magazines…that my friends is another day year.

anyone else have another way that they choose their meals for the week??

(2) I have a note sheet that I write down the days I am planning on making dinner… I don’t necessarily cook every night if we already have plans…so this helps me know how many nights I need to figure something out for…this is also when I write it down on my glass menu frame.

(3) then I start my grocery list…I write down all the ingredients that I need to get at the store for each recipe…then go to the store

I have found some good ideas on blogs/pinterest on starting a binder for organizing the meals…well and my life…

Three Men & a Mommy (don’t you love that name…so cute) I follow her blog and she is having a giveaway from Put it on Paper… and Put it on Paper has some cute paper planning kits…love the Meal Planning Kit

Printable Meal Planning & Shopping Lists-Meal Planning Kit-6 Pages-INSTANT DOWNLOAD

I found this one at Life in Yellow

and I follow this blog I Heart Organizing and she has this meal planning printable on etsy

and well once I start I can’t stop…found this cute one at The Project Girl

and you don’t need fancy paper a scratch piece of paper works just as well :-)

(4) please don’t cringe at this…I start a pile on my counter *gasp*

My years when I did not cook my kitchen was so clean, seemless and pretty…well now…yeah it is NOT that.  BUT how much I love my kitchen more filled with the food, spices and gadgets I am going to use….

what I mean by #4 is on my counter I put out the ingredients that i will be using that week (obviously the ones that can stay on the counter put your refrigerated items away people)…I also set out my sweet treat ingredients I want to remember to make…since for me if it is shoved inside the cupboard I forget about it…if I have all my stuff out it is that much easier for me to MAKE DINNER!

SO MAKE DINNER PEOPLE :-)

Thanks for the shout out! I love printable organizing! I use something similar for posting our weekly meal plan at home :)
Can’t wait until you decide to tackle organizing your recipes from magazines…I have a cabinet where everything pretty much falls on my head, lol.

Can I live at your house? This would have been great when I had all my boys at home (4 Men and a Mommy?). Maybe I should give it a try anyway (Just 4 Me?). Have a great day and thanks for the Blog
