March 8, 2013

in Favorites, Travel

so i will warn you now i don’t have many photos from this weekend.

however i couldn’t wait to share some of the places we ate at.

and ate. and ate.

yeah we ate a lot.

so much amazing food. like really good foodie good.

i’ve never been to The Cities before…well unless you count my trip to Mall of America like 15 years ago…but i am not counting that.

we stayed at the Marquette Hotel which is located right in Downtown Minneapolis. Overall a really nice hotel. clean…nice size rooms…nice fitness room which fyi i ran 2x…yeah i know patting myself on the back lol….the only funny thing that we laughed about was the “double” beds. we got 2 rooms, each with 2 double beds….well there is no way they were doubles…maybe a wider twin…but it was just so funny to think as one night i shared the bed with my friend and well it was just funny.

First stop Solera…we went for drinks and tapas..precursor to our dinner reservations that weren’t till 9:00pm..yeah that is right i said pm…i am normally in bed reading so well i felt pretty cool…ok back to Solera …. we had a delicious bottle of red wine and split these dishes:

Dates bacon wrapped, goats cheese stuffed — Croquettas — Tortilla potato, leeks, truffle — Scallops “a la Planxta” squash puree, chorizo, roasted mushrooms

next stop Bar la Grasse for our super cool reservations at 9:00…truth…this place books up.

I made our reservation a couple of months before our trip and i had two times to pick from 5:00 and 9:00

so that is why we were super cool to be eating so late…ya know staying up late being cool chick hip gals out in The Cities.

so i am slightly embarrassed to write what food we all ate…however we did have leftover and we were really excited to try so many things

AND there were six of us…so hopefully with all those excuses you understand

my favorite was the soft eggs & lobster bruschetta it was just so good. so different. the flavors. loved

my favorite main course with the gnocchi with cauliflower and orange…who would think of combining those flavors? oh yeah a james beard winner chef Isaac Becker.

started day with starbucks for me…i love a chai tea latte

other girls had caribou coffee which is more of a local fav up there.

shopping…Macy’s…great deals.

Uptown for Brunch at Bar Abilene

let me begin by saying i love brunch. love. so that is why this may have been my favorite place.

PLUS 1. i love mexican food 2. i love margaritas 3. i love drinking during the day on a weekend with girlfriends.

we started off with their famous tableside guacamole – fresh avocados mashed right there at your table. the tortilla chips were so good…remember i am a tortilla chip snob…well these were perfect. perfect chips, perfect guac…ahhhh yum.

i had the Tacos al Pastor soft corn tortillas, braised pork, pineapple, guajillo chili salsa

other gals had the Huevos Rancheros & Eggs Benedict…all super good.

oh can’t forget washed it down with the Green Iguana Margarita which had fresh basil leaves and limoncello…ok i didn’t wash it down. i slowly enjoyed.

*more shopping*

then Dinner at Chino Latinos

this is the entrance…tucked away door

and then this is the inside bar area  cool huh.

this was a fun loud happening place. we sat by the sushi bar so i enjoyed watching the chefs work in the sushi kitchen. we didn’t eat any sushi but it looked so beautiful as i think sushi does.

what we did enjoy was sharing all these…isn’t it fun going out with friends who all enjoy sharing food…then you get to try soo many different menu items….love that.

NACHOS DEL SOL crispy plantain chips topped with black beans, chorizo, queso fresco and pico de gallo

KOREAN BULGOGI LETTUCE CUP grilled and marinated kobe beef with red onion, rice, ginger-scallion, kimchee, ssamjang

QUESO FUNDIDO with CHORIZO molten cheese with sautéed mushrooms, pico de gallo, chile de arbol and chips

PINOY PAELLA jumbo shrimp, adobo chicken, mussels, chorizo sausage, calamari and saffron-annatto rice

ahhhhh…..yeah i am feeling full just typing this post.

so if you are heading to The Cities i hope this post helps with your restaurant choices..

i know there are so many more to pick from…well…that is just another trip..right friends :-)

It looks like an amazing trip Angela. I love Minneapolis and I may have to check out that brunch spot in Uptown this summer when we visit. I miss so many things about living there. Minneapolis has such a great vibe and culture and I love all the different neighborhoods, especially the hipness of the uptown area. We lived about 10 minutes from uptown, right near the Guthrie theatre (the older one next to the sculpture garden).
I love girls weekends but do find it hard to share a bed with one of my girlfriends. John crashes at night and doesn’t toss and turn, but when I share a bed with one of my girlfriends, they toss and turn like crazy and are constantly getting up to use the ladies room. I never sleep well on my girl weekends! Anyway, it was great seeing the post on your trip! xoxo, Jackie
