in Brownies & Bars, Dessert, Recipes

With fall comes my Auntie Sandra’s Applesauce Bars. These are one of my favorites. I truly don’t think an apple desert gets better than this. These bars are delicious, moist, sweet and perfect for fall.

I wanted to make these – HAD to make these and only had Apple Strawberry sauce on hand. Verdict – you couldn’t even taste a different. Still so good!

Applesauce Bars

Ingredients

  • 1 cup applesauce
  • 2/3 cups sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter (softened)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • sprinkle cloves

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 9x13 pan.

In mixer blend the applesauce, sugar, butter and egg.

In seperate bowl whisk together the reaminder of the ingredients. Flour, baking soda, cinnamon, salt, nutmeg and cloves.

Slowly add dry ingredients to mixer. Mix for 2 minutes on medium speed.

Pour into pan. The layer may seem thin but it rises so no worries.
Bake for 25 minutes.
Let them cool before frosting.

And here is a close up of the cream cheese frosting. Again these are SO Good!!! My aunt does a Brown Butter Icing – which I have been loving Brown Butter lately…but I had a craving for cream cheese frosting. Looks like I will just have to whip up another batch to show you the Brown Butter Icing too :-)

Cream Cheese Frosting

Ingredients

  • 4oz cream cheese (softenend)
  • 1/4 cup butter (softenend)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

Combine cream cheese and butter in a mixer - KitchenAid - blend together until light and fluffy.

Add in powdered sugar and vanilla and blend on low speed until well combined.

Then increase speed to medium and whip until smooth and fluffy.
